It works fine, I can start a stage, play music, etc, but when I command + tab out, and then command + tab back in later, it goes to the main menu and the arrow keys or enter button don't work, and it acts as if I'm pressing down nonstop(main menu options are highlighted as if I'm pressing that button). I have to quit Wine and open it again, and by that time it has completely started over the game. How can I avoid this glitch/bug? Or, how can I save the game in between stages and come back to it later? Also, this is my first time playing touhou, so any advice / tips / basic info would be appreciated. Is it ok that I start with game 6? What is going on?

Thanks for any help. Wait, there are fellow wine users like me on this sub?

Unfortunately, I can not help you with this glitch. However the glitch shouldn't bother you too much as Touhou is meant to be played in short 30 - 40 minute runs and I tend to do better if I don't occupy myself between stages. Also, I would say the 6th game is good to start with as it isn't as hard as some of the later games but not as easy as IN. It's also pretty simple. However I recommend you play the 9th game just to test for wine issues as the game used to crash every time I beat it. With all that said have fun playing EOSD and I hope you find Touhou enjoyable! 6th game is good to start with as it isn't as hard as some of the later games u wot?

The lack of hitbox is killer if you don't have some earlier experience with shmups. And even if you do, the nonintuitive hitboxes of the bullets will kill you. Start with 7. Easy enough and aside from the cherry gimmick, you don't really have to pay too much attention. Should you desperately want to start off with a gimmickless game, I'd still suggest SA over EoSD.

Sure it's hard, but at least it's fair. The lack of hitbox is killer if you don't have some earlier experience with shmups The lack of a hitbox is part of the reason EOSD is a good game to start with. The lack of a hitbox allows you to get a feel to were your hitbox is so you don't need to relay on a visual hitbox in the later games and help you in arcade shmups.

EOSD isn't a game that you need to have earlier experience in arcade shmups to play but rather a game that gives you earlier experience for arcade shmups. And even if you do, the nonintuitive hitboxes of the bullets will kill you Honestly, I never found the bullet hitboxes a problem. I found getting a feel for the game was enough to know how to dodge all bullets at all times. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the later games do a better job at bullet hitboxes but I don't think the hitboxes in EOSD is as bad as you say it is. Start with 7 Good choice.

7 is a good place to start. It's hard, but at least it's fair EOSD is not unfair. It just takes awhile to get a feel for the game.
