Geforce2 Drivers For Mac
I have an 867 quicksilver G4, and wish to add a 2d Lacie electron blue III monitor. From exploring discussions, I suspect the following: the installed AGP nvidia geforce2 MX card will NOT support a second monitor, even with a dr. Bott VGA extractor adapter (DVI-VGA) is this correct? I cringe at the price of a new card such as the radeon 9600 pro.any suggestions on a current, lower priced AGP option which will equal the performance of my current card, on two monitors running 1024x768 each?
Is PCI even an option worth considering? Hi Martin, Your present card will support a second monitor, but, unless it is the 'twinview' edition, it will not run the two monitors independantly. This means that the monitors will just 'mirror' each other, you won't be able to extend the desktop across the both of them. If you wish to upgrade your card but don't want to pay for the latest model, I would recommend the Radeon ATI 9000 Pro Mac Edition. It has the same chipset as the ATI 9200 (which is the most powerful PCI card you can drop into a Mac) and will be way faster (than the 9200) because AGP is much much faster than PCI due to PCI bandwidth limitations. It has DVI and native ADC ports.

Just bear in mind that the 9000 is (by today's standards) a dated card, and will not support some of the latest graphics effects (such as Core Image) that OS's like Tiger like to use. The end of homework app for mac. Tiger will still start up fine, just without the latest eye candy.
There are also some games and applications that you would not be able to use either. This card can be purchased secondhand on places such as eBay, but be sure that it is a genuine Mac card (flashed PC cards have no native ADC port), and that the seller is reputable and has a good returns policy (if the card is DOA). Hi Karl, I am planning to change graphic controller in my computer. The reason to do this is that I want to connect two displays (one CRT with RGB and one LCD also with RGB (using DVI/RGB adapter). At the moment I have GeForce 2Mx 32MB RAM but it has only RGB and ADC ports. To connect another display I would have to buy an ADC/RGB adapter which would cost me more then a new card with DVI port and DVI/RGB adapter. Would you be so kind to tell me if I can drop a graphic controller based on ATI R9250 chipset with 128 MB RAM 64 BIT into my mac?
I am in doubt because it is not Mac Edition card. It is a card normally sold for PC and there's no information about Mac compatibility on the box. There are no any Mac drivers on CD sold with card. On the www.ati.com website, in driver download section there's a file macosx-ati-displays-4-5-6.dmg, but on the list of supported controllers there's only Radeon 9200 MAC EDITION (mentioned by you). Do you thing that R9250 for PC will work with this driver on PowerMacG4 AGP? How to check if it will work in dual mode (extended desktop) with two monitors?
In my country (Poland) its hard to get cheap MAC EDITION cards. Apple dealer have one very up to date model but it is very expensive. I cant find any second hand controllers for mac either. Is it good idea to buy this card and download drivers from ati site? Do I have to upgrade RAM in my computer to support this card and two displays? Hi Marcin, I answered some of your query in this discussion: As regards card availability, you can try finding the card that I recommended to you (ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition) on places such as eBay. Make sure that the seller has a good reputation and a sound returns policy if the card is no good when you get it.
Be sure to only buy genuine Mac cards - some cards that are 'Mac' are if fact 'flashed' PC cards - more risky. You need a card with a native ADC port, flashed PC cards won't have that. Apple Footer.
